The Nutcracker, a popular story of childhood joy and wonder is a marvelous way to welcome the yuletide season.
In this traditional holiday tale, following a Christmas Eve party at her home, a little girl named Klara falls asleep embracing her new Nutcracker toy given to her by Heir Drosselmeier. She dreams herself into a fantasy world where toys become larger than life and she meets the Nutcracker Prince. Their magical journey first takes them to the Snow Forest, where they meet the Snow Queen and her court of swirling snowflakes. Next Klara and her Prince travel to the Land of Sweets, where the Sugar Plum Fairy presents a series of divertissements, entertaining the pair with ethnic dances, culminating in the delightful Waltz of the Flowers. The Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier dance solos and a beautiful pas de deux before Klara suddenly finds herself back at home, wondering if it was all a dream.
This story of Christmas wonder is visualized through richly textured dance patterns, faithfully staged by Artistic Director, Kristin Degnan after the choreography of Lev Ivanov to Tchaikovsky’s entrancing score.
